InSpace allows you to record your virtual presentations and share these video recordings with your instructor and classmates. InSpace also features an option to automatically create audio transcripts for your videos, making your recordings accessible for all.

Make sure to activate your InSpace account in your Canvas course before joining Student Space.

How to Record an InSpace Presentation or Discussion Room Session

  1. Join InSpace Student Space.

  2. Click the Setup Space menu option.
    • Toggle off Proximity in the main space area.
    • Select the Discussion Room InSpace layout.

      Special Instructions for Group Presentations: If you are recording a group presentation, have the group leader be the official recorder. Make sure all members of your group are inside the Discussion space

  3. Move your icon/webcam video so you are inside the discussion room.

  4. Right-click your Google Slides presentation to open it in a second Chrome tab. Click Share > Get Link > Copy Link.

  5. Click the Start sharing button and select Google Drive. Paste the link to your Google Slides presentation in the Google Drive URL field and click the Present button.

  6. Click the Hide Filmstrip icon in the lower left-hand corner of your Google Slides presentation.

  7. Click the Start Recording menu option. Make sure the Discussion room is selected. Check on Add audio transcript to the recording file and click the Start recording button.

    Special Group Instructions: If you are recording a group presentation, have the group leader complete Steps 6-7.

  8. At the prompt for what to record, click the Chrome Tab, choose SELECT THIS FOR RECORDING, and click Share.

  9. You are now recording your InSpace session, indicated by the red Recording icon.

  10. During your recording, click on the gray area surrounding your Google Slides presentation in InSpace and advance through your Google slides by using the right or down arrow on your keyboard.

    Special Group Instructions: If you are recording a group presentation, make sure each group member has Share Access to the Google Slides presentation.

  11. When you have completed your session, click the active Record button to Stop Recording.

  12. At the confirmation prompt, click Stop and save.

  13. Your video recording has successfully been saved to your InSpace Canvas Portal.

  14. Click the Stop sharing button.

  15. Click the Exit button and Yes to end your InSpace session.

How to Download Your Video File and Closed Captions File

  1. In your Canvas InSpace, click Student Space, and click Recordings.

    Special Group Instructions: If you recorded a group presentation, the group leader will complete Steps 1-3.

  2. Select My Recordings, click the Download icon, and download the mp4 file and the closed captions vtt file to your local computer.

    Note: If either the Download MP4 file or Download transcript file is grayed out, InSpace is still processing the file. Allow at least an hour or longer for processing.

  3. Check your Downloads folder on your computer to locate the two files (mp4 video and vtt closed captions file).
